Mary Bergman Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Bergman
December 30, 1944 - May 11, 2021
Middletown, NY
Mary Elizabeth Bergman (Sigler), age 76, of Syracuse, NY (formerly Middletown, NY) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 while holding her daughter's hand. She was the loving wife of 52 years, of Jerry Bergman and mother of daughters, Rory (Lawrence) and Jennifer (Levesque).
Born on December 30, 1944, she was the daughter of Ray and Mildred Sigler. Mary was born and raised in Middletown, NY and graduated from Middletown High School in 1962.
They say your legacy is what you do every day and every life you've touched. We imagine her legacy as a giant pair of arms reaching around the globe to friends, family and strangers that she has shown endless kindness to over her 76 years. Her greatest impact was not through words but through her joyful actions. She taught us to be adventurous by traveling the world and seeking new adventures. She taught us to work hard through her years of service in the Middletown School District, driving a school bus and working in a local card shop. She taught us to be compassionate and kind through her many volunteer acts to those she knew and those she didn't. She taught us to laugh hard and often and to always "be silly." But the most important thing we all learned from her is that love is always the answer and family always comes first. Mary/Mom - we were the lucky ones to have had this beautiful, funny, adventurous and loving life with you. As you go on this journey may your spirit continue to shine as bright as the smile you gave us. As you'd say to all of us who loved you - "toodaloo" for now. We will miss and love you forever.
Besides her husband Jerry, she is survived by her youngest daughter, Rory and Mark Lawrence, her older daughter, Jennifer Levesque; brother, Gene and Phyllis Sigler; nieces and nephew: Renee, Rebecca and Aaron; and brother in law, Bruce Bergman. She was predeceased by her parents; her in-laws, Myrtle and Clarence Bergman and her son in law, Ryan Levesque. However, her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren: Grace, Hugo, Colten and Merritt - her favorite pumpkin pies.
A Celebration of Mary's life will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 17th, 2021 at Kuhl's Highland House, 512 Highland Ave. Extension, Middletown, NY 10940. Please wear bright colors to celebrate the bright life and energy she gave to all of us.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to two organizations: David's Refuge - an organization very dear to our family's heart. All checks should be made out to David's Refuge with "in honor of Mary Bergman" noted in the memo. Please mail to 8195 Cazenovia Road, Manlius, NY 13104, or Hospice of Central NY. Checks should be made out to Hospice of Central NY and mailed to 900 7th North Street, Liverpool, NY 13088 with "in honor of Mary Bergman" noted in the memo.

My condolences to the entire Bergman family. I have known Mrs. Bergman for almost 30 years, and met her first, while I was a Student Teacher at Middletown H.S. and was working with her oldest daughter, Jennifer. Mrs. Bergman was such an amazingly kind, supportive, and upbeat personality. I am truly so very sorry to have heard the news today. She will be sorely missed by all that knew her and had the privilege to spend time with and around her.

One of my earliest, and seems to always be the first of many, memories I have with my Aunt Mary is this:

The sun is shining bright through the kitchen window at Grandma's, I am sitting up high, I think on one of those folding step ladder/chairs, while Aunt Mary gives me a fresh Spring haircut. It must have been Easter time. I remember her asking me how I wanted my hair. Me, proudly proclaiming, that I wanted to look like Tennille, of Captain' & Tennille!! You know the haircut, cute bangs fading into a pageboy bob around the ears. I believe I was about 7 years old then. I loved that my aunt could give me such a great haircut! I'm going to miss her love, her bright, sunny smile, the delicious baked goods, esp., her zucchini or pumpkin bread that she made; hearing "toodles" "pumpkin" whenever we were together.
I will forever be grateful to her for being with me and my mom, for my daughter Amber's birth. It meant the world to me, to have her there, supporting me, and helping me.

Thank you, Aunt Mary, for a lifetime of love, acceptance, shared knowledge, and support. Until we meet again
