May everyone born since 1945 realize more now than ever before an extremely invaluable truth God has made us beneficiaries of, that freedom has never come easy, fast or cheap. As a child of veterans, I thank Him regularly for the sacrifices so many true Americans have and still do make for the common good..........Jn. 15:13.

My Mom, Dad, Don and I would visit Aunt Audrey and Uncle LeRoy in late fifties (early sixties). I enjoyed so very much those days. Uncle LeRoy had his TV shop. Eddie had his home made weights in the back yard. We all enjoyed each other’s company. So much has occurred since those days. I still think often of remaining family (Marie, Dianne and Janet). I still love the memories and still love the entire family. He was a great man and soldier. My prayers are with the entire family (kinfolks) as always.

Thanking all US soldiers who liberated Germany (where I was born in 1947 in Munich), and made it possible for me to come to America in 1964 to start my adult life. The US occupation of Bavaria was the best thing that could ever have happened! My German family (in Amberg near Nuremberg) could live in peace again. US soldiers were regarded as LIBERATORS. I salute all the American Heroes!

When I saw the 29th Div pin on his cap, I ran for my copy of "D-Day Survivor" by Harold Baumgarten. Mr Pickett is named on pg32 and pg62, along with his hometown Soddy-Daisy, Tenn. Hal always included his buddies' hometowns in his books. Hal was an advisor on the film "Saving Private Ryan". His widow, Rita, attended the 75th anniversary D-Day celebration, hopefully she and Mr Pickett saw each other at that time. Hal died on Christmas, 2016.

Many can talk and discuss what D-Day was like. You sir, are of the few who watched, experienced, and survived the horror witnessing the suffering and pain that humans can inflict on each other. You are now on that new journey that we all face. I wish you well on that journey and hope you find and share with those who have gone before you the love and compassion we all seek.
