Isaac Kantrowitz Obituary

Isaac "Yits" Kantrowitz
January 13, 1933 - April1, 2021
Woodridge, NY
Isaac "Yits" Kantrowitz was born January 13, 1933 in Woodridge, NY to Bertha and Nathan Kantrowitz. Yits enjoyed living in Woodridge his entire life.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, and high school sweetheart, Gloria; his three daughters: Beth (Ben), Debi (Charlie), and Karen (Jacob); the lights of his life, his grandchildren: Meredith, Emily (Scott), Jesse, Austin, and Lily; his sister, Sally Beer; many nieces, nephews, and his loyal companion, Tino (the dog). He was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers: Seymour, Leon, and William.
From his start milking cows on his parent's farm at the Kantrowitz House, Yits continued to work hard throughout his life. He owned and operated Yits' Service Center for decades; he had a great "eye" for cars. As a well-known auto body mechanic he began his journey to becoming a figure of the local community.
Yits later joined the Town of Fallsburg Highway Department and MBIA. As a highly respected and admired man in town, he was elected Woodridge Village Justice and went on to be elected Town of Fallsburg Judge for 30 years.
As a dedicated member of the community, he held a variety of positions in many local organizations. He was president and manager of the little league, president and secretary of Woodridge Kiwanis, a Master Mason of the South Fallsburg Masonic Lodge, member of the Woodridge Ambulance Corps, president of the New York State Magistrates Association, held many offices in the Woodridge Fire Department, having joined at the age of 21, Sullivan County Fire Police, Sullivan County Volunteer Firefighters Association, chaplain of the Woodbourne Fire Department, and a Village of Woodridge Trustee.
Beyond official positions, Yits led a vibrant, full life filled with laughter, family, and friends. As town justice, he officiated over 300 weddings and loved being a part of people's most important memories. This was a joy. Everyone will always remember his kindness and humor.
When you think of Yits, please smile and laugh.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Trevor Loughlin Foundation or the Woodridge Fire Department.

I already miss Yits, as does Tino who is crying and barking too much! That breaks my heart. I am grateful that my granddaughter was able to make him smile, along with his amazing, close-knit family!
