JACK HARRY GAINES October 7, 1939 ~ January 5, 2018 Jack Harry Gaines was born October 7, 1939 in Los Angeles, California. The world has lost one of its most luminous lights. Jack was full of passions and goodwill. He had many hobbies he called "learning experiences". His many interests included sailing, boat building, dirt bike riding, photography, art/painting, ceramics, beekeeping, butterfly collecting, cycling, being a member of the California Triple Crown, making and collecting chess sets, visiting lighthouses and collecting lighthouse models, obtaining his pilot's license, building an airplane, woodworking, designing and building anything and everything; a true inventor and engineer to the end. Jack was preceeded in death by his father, Charles William Grant Gaines Sr. (Jack), mother, Agnes Vivian Gaines, and brother Charles William Grant Gaines, Jr (Bud). Jack is survived by wife Linda J Gaines of Red Bluff, CA, daughter Cindy and husband Jon Gotz, Long Beach, CA, son Scot C. and wife Shaunon Gaines, Red Bluff, CA, step daughter Carol Golsh, Chico, CA, 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Jack grew up in Long Beach, CA. He played football for CalPoly High School and aquired his love of sailing in the Sea Scouts. He attended Long Beach State University earning a Masters Degreee in Manufacturing Engineering. He was proud of his years as a Long Beach Police Reserves Officer. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and General Electrical Contractor. In 1991 Jack and wife Linda moved to Red Bluff where they built and opened Book Barn at 619 Oak St., Red Bluff. They operated the store together for the last 23 1/2 years. A husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He will be missed greatly by many. A Celebration of Life will be held Sat.
