1926 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Maurice (Bill) Briggs 6/26/1926 ~ 6/24/2018 Bill Briggs passed peacefully, June 24, 2018, at his daughter's home in Sandpoint, ID just two days before his 92nd birthday. He was surrounded with love from his children, family and friends. Bill was born June 26, 1926 in Denison, Texas to Morris and Thelma (Schleuse) Briggs. His family moved to California when he was a teen. He served in the Air Force during WWII as a tail gunner on a B-29 bomber. He returned to CA to join the Los Angeles Police Dept. on the elite motor squad in 1947. He loved the opportunity to solve crimes and serve his community. He was promoted through the ranks to Investigator III. Bill was husband to Teri (Joseph) Briggs, and father to Lynette Hornreich, Gail McPherson and Randall Briggs. Bill devoted his summers to the family, taking extended camping trips throughout the western US, Canada and Alaska creating great memories for all. Retiring in 1972 Bill and Teri moved to Los Molinos with Randall. They continued their love of outdoors & fishing on the Sacramento River and later spending summers in Crescent City, ocean fishing. Bill eventually moved to Idaho a few years ago to enjoy family, country life and to be cared for by his daughter, Gail. A godly man of true integrity, he set the example for others to live by. We were blessed to have had him in our lives as he was a kind and generous man with a beautiful soul. He cared for his ailing wife, aging mother, and mother-in-law during difficult illnesses. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Teri Briggs, sisters Mary Dougherty and Dorothy Gagnon, baby brother Charles Briggs and Grandson Douglas Coleman. Bill leaves his three children, four grandchildren, Summer Bibbee, Rex Briggs, Cyrus Smith, David Hornreich, ten great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. There will be a visitation at Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flower on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at Los Molinos Cemetery on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 10:00 am with a Celebration of Life at Cone Community United Methodist Church 11220 Hwy 99E, Los Molinos, CA We will always carry your memory in hearts.
