1936 - 2018 In Memoriam Condolences
MERLIN PIERRE PEETS April 6, 1936 - January 27, 2018 Merlin Pierre Peets born April 6, 1936 passed away peacefully at home with his wife of 54 years at his side on Saturday, January 27th, 2018. Born in Grand Island, Nebraska to Pierre and Irene Peets his family relocated to California and settled in the Capay District of Orland/Corning, CA in 1945. Merlin attended Corning High School and graduated in 1954. Upon graduation, he went to UC Davis on a scholarship for engineering. He served his country in the army for about 2 years. He returned to the North Valley to finish college at Cal State Univ, Chico with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in that profession with US Forest Service until retiring in 1994. His passion was raising Gelbvieh cattle on the family ranch which became his main job/hobby after retiring. He was an active member of the Grange # 461 (Capay District) and with various cattle organizations. Preceded in death by his parents Pierre and Irene Peets, sisters, Jolene Price, Wanda Peets, Melva Brownell, nephew Michael Stern and niece Tina McHenry. He is survived by his wife Jeanette Peets, daughter Janessa Parker (Matt), grandson Garrett and granddaughter Peyton, brother Pierre Peets and wife Vivian along with several nieces and nephews. Viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb 6th from 4-6 pm at Hall Brothers Mortuary in Corning. The service is being held Wednesday, Feb 7th at 11 am at Hall Brothers mortuary in Corning immediately followed by a military graveside service at Sunset Hills cemetary and reception to follow at the Corning Senior Center.
