1933 - 2018 In Memoriam Condolences
ROBERTA "BERTIE" ELLEN MOHLER (HARNESS) CRAWFORD July 27, 1933 ~ April 16, 2018 Roberta ("Bertie") Crawford died at home April 16, 2018. Born July 27, 1933 in Red Bluff to John and Margaret Mohler, the second child of nine siblings, 5 girls and 4 boys. A native of Red Bluff, she grew up in Dairyville on a Turkey/Prune Ranch, married LLoyd Harness, and had two children, Becky and Buck. Bertie was a long-time member of the Cottonwood Community, where she raised her children on a small ranch. As with everything, she embraced ranch life by gardening, cooking large meals, driving to rodeos and horse shows, and riding herd on numerous animals that followed her children home. Many people remember her as a 4H Leader, swim instructor, and medical assistant to Dr. Reifert. In April 1977, Bertie married the "Love of her life" Mel Crawford, Commander U.S. Navy, Retired. They recently celebrated their 41st. wedding anniversary. Bertie graduated from the Nursing program at Shasta College, worked at a local physician's office and at Mercy Medical Center in ICU, CCU and as a charge nurse. While remaining employeed at Shasta College as the Clinical Skills Lab Coordinator, Bertie completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from CSU Dominquez Hills. Until her retirement, she worked with various levels of nursing students preparing them for practice. Bertie and Mel traveled extensively to Europe, Africa, Hawaii, Mexica, Alaska, Canada, the Caribbean and Mediterranean. They spent many hours on their houseboat as Shasta Lake enjoying fishing and spending time with friends. She treasures time spent at their home in Smith River, where she perfected her fishing skills. Bertie was involve inmany community groups including PEO-Chapter CM, Garden Club, Book Club, Tuesday Lunch group, and playing Bunco at Riverview. She was very artisic and enjoyed painting, cooking gardening, quilting, cake decorating and crafts. She was extremely talented in designing and creating dolls, and created crafts for every holiday occasion. She donated many of her creations to local charities for community fundraisers. Bertie was preceded in death by her mother, father, and two siblings, and is survived by her husband Kerrins (Mel), daughter Becky (Gary) Darst, son Buck (Cindy) Harness and Kerrins "K" (Kathy) Crawford, sisters Joanna Scott, Cathy Manning, Marg Cooper, and brothers Paul Mohler, E.P. Mohler, Tom Mohler, four grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 27th, at the Elk's Club in Red Bluff from1-4pm.
