REDLANDS— Helen Arth, née Schumacher, a beloved longtime resident of Redlands, died Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Mission Commons.
Born in 1919 in Newcomerstown, Ohio, Helen grew up on a dairy farm with her two sisters Melvine and Sonny. She married Aaron Arth and together adventured to Redlands where they grew citrus and raised five children: Carol, Frederick, Phillip, Linda and Stephen.
As a founding member of the Redlands United Church of Christ, Helen served her church family by baking loaves of bread, working a community garden, arranging beautiful flowers each week, and bringing joy to hundreds of children each Christmas with her homemade gingerbread houses.
Additionally, she was a founding member of the P.E.O. Chapter VP of Redlands serving 58 years in the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Helen is survived by four of her children, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and many dear friends. She will be remembered for her delicious cooking that brought people together, her warm heart, kind smile, compassion and remarkable strength.
