Ontario, CA passed away December 7, 2010. He was born in Bokchito, OK on April 22, 1932; the eighth child of John and Agnes Powell. In 1943 his family moved to Hemet, CA where he attended Hemet schools through grade ten. He completed his last two years of high school in Bothell, WA, and in 1951 returned to Southern California and attended Chaffey College located in Ontario until his education was interrupted by the Korean War. He served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier Hancock. After four years of duty, Garner returned to Ontario and worked briefly with the O.U. Creamery and Shady Grove Dairy, then joined Continental Baking Company where he retired after a 30-year career with Wonder Bread. Since he was only 55 years of age, he joined Tarbell Realtors, Upland and completed another 20-year career selling residential real estate. Within those 20 years he became a top producer in the Ontario- Upland area. His proudest moments in real estate were meeting new people, many of whom became close friends. Garner is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlene Finley Powell; daughters: KimberLee Rahlfs, PhD of Laguna Niguel and Lisa Momberg of Upland; sons-in-law: Thomas Rahlfs, Matthew Momberg; and daughter-in-law, Cari Powell of Ontario. He leaves behind his greatest joy in life, his three grandchildren: Ryan Powell, Katelyn Rahlfs, and Tess Momberg. Garner's son and business partner, Kevin, preceded him in death in 2003. His only surviving sibling is Samuel L. Powell of Tucson, AZ. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews, as well as many friends he has embraced throughout life. Garner was active in ministry at Life Bible Fellowship in Upland until his death. He was mentor to may young men in his 50 years of service to the Lord and is lovingly called, "Dad," "Pops," or "Daddy G." Throughout his ministry he has added many new "sons" and "daughters." A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Garner will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Life Bible Fellowship Church, 2426 N. Euclid Ave., Upland, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in the memory of Garner to the Donny O'Connell Foundation, a non-profit financial assistance program for burial needs of children, c/o 2426 N. Euclid Ave., Upland, CA 91784; the USC Kenneth Norris Cancer Hospital, 1441 Eastlake Ave., Ste. 3440, Los Angeles, CA 90033 Attn: Dr. J. Weber; or any other charity of your choice.

I am filled with gratitude to have known such a loving, godly man. Garner and Charlene discipled my parents when I was very small, and made me feel like a treasured grandchild.Love and prayers to Charlene and the family. Many fond memories spending time with Garner and Charlene who were my children's (Scott, Leah and Janie Powell), God Parents. Garner was one of the truly good people who walked this earth. He will be remembered and missed.

I remember visiting Charlene and Garner when I was very young. They welcomed me and made me feel at home. It was such a great feeling to be with them. One of the things that stands out the most is I can still remember is the look of love in his eyes when he spoke to Charlene. That was over 50 years ago and I have never forgotten it.Patty Allsbrook
