JoAnn Boone

JoAnn – a third generation Redlander - died on Wednesday 28 February of congestive heart failure at the age of 89. JoAnn was born on August 29, 1928 at the Redlands Community Hospital that was located downtown before the new hospital up on Terracina opened. She is the daughter of John and Marguerite Vaughn. JoAnn attended all Redlands schools, graduating from Redlands High School Class of 1946. Known as Miss poise and personality in High School, JoAnn was involved in Hi Tri, Hi Tri Cabinet, Pep Committee, Pom Pom Girl, Girls choir, Tennis Club, Ring Club, Makio Business Staff, GAA, and Spanish Club. After graduating from High School, JoAnn attended the Woodbury College of Business in Los Angeles and received her credentials as a bookkeeper. Soon after graduation, she married John Henry Boone (June, 1951) whose family had moved to Redlands in 1945 from Lindsay, California. Shortly after their marriage, they established Redlands Quality Tile where JoAnn took care of the bookkeeping and accounting. John and JoAnn had three children together: Stephen Boone (1954), Mark Boone (1956) and Jeff Boone (1960). JoAnn became known in the community for entertaining and hosting many bridge parties and loved to cook and spend time in her kitchen at home in the hills of south Redlands. She was an awesome and beloved mom, grandmother and aunt. Joann was an avid bridge player – a card game that brought her much joy and opportunity to socialize. She was a member of many bridge groups throughout the years.
JoAnn was a member of the First Baptist Church, served as a docent for Kimberly Crest and involved with the U of R Women's Club, the April Morning Club, Republican Women's Club and the RHS Class of 1946 reunion committee. JoAnn had a very special place in her heart for all of her many friends in Redlands. Her family was very important to her and she was a very positive and gracious role model to all of her family and friends. She was very strong in dealing with difficult situations and taught us that anything was possible with the power of positive thinking, faith in God, and the will to never give up on your dreams and goals.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband John Henry, sister Phyllis Jones, and sister in law Norma Lee Patterson.
Survivors include: son Stephen Boone (daughter–in-law Elizabeth), son Mark Boone (daughter-in-law Kim), son Jeff (daughter – in –law Charlene), grandsons Andrew Boone, Michael Boone, granddaughters Bethanne Prince, Kaetelyn Boone, Brooke Boone and Blair Boone.
