Sara Jane (Van Sant) Peterson, 89, of Red Oak, passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.
Sara was born April 27, 1929, in Red Oak, the daughter of Ernest and Grace (Lloyd) Linn. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1947 and attended Red Oak Junior College. She was united in marriage to Carl Van Sant on Aug. 20, 1949, in Red Oak.
Sara taught school in Sidney and Stennett, and also worked at the Montgomery County Courthouse before moving to Colorado. While in Colorado, Sara worked for over 30 years at Colorado National Bank. Carl passed away in 1993, and Sara moved back to Red Oak, where she was the Director at Regency Retirement Residence. She later married Dick Peterson in 1998, and they moved to Chicago. Dick passed away in 2007, and Sara moved back to Red Oak. Over the years, she was very active in her church, Red Oak Presbyterian Church, and also Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Carl and Dick; siblings, Alice Lantz, Jack Linn, and Darwin Linn; brothers-in-law, Merrill Lantz and Marvin Focht; and nephews, Rod Focht and Mark Van Sant.
Survivors include her sister, Barbara Focht of Red Oak; sister-in-law, Martha Linn of Corning; nephews and nieces, Kirk Lantz and wife Karla of Stanton; Leland Lantz and wife Marcia of Anaheim, Calif.; Patty McPherren and husband Randy of Unionville; Maggie Lee and husband Tom of Eddyville; Jeff Focht and wife Nora of Omaha; Sue Reynolds and husband Denny of Griswold; Mark Focht and wife Michelle of Villisca; and Emily Lundberg of Huxley; special friend, Jay DeYoung of Essex; and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside memorial services were held Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at the Morton's Mill Cemetery near Morton's Mill. If you are wanting to leave a memorial contribution, Sara instructed us to tell you to take a friend to lunch.
