Hayden Mims Obituary

Colonel Hayden P. Mims (USAF, retired) died Nov. 2, 2011. He was 88 and preceded in death by Susan Brooks Mims, his wife of 63 years.
A memorial service for Hayden will be held at Long Memorial Methodist Church in Roxboro, on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 at 11 a.m., with the burial at Burchwood Cemetery. A reception will follow immediately at the fellowship hall at Long Memorial Methodist Church.
As a pilot with the First Troop Carrier Squadron during World War II, Mims flew missions over "The Hump" in the China-Burma-India Theater, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross three times and the Air Medal four times. Colonel Mims was awarded the Legion of Merit when he retired in 1968. He then served as Executive Director of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards in Washington, D.C.
He is survived by his three sons and their families, Stephen H. Mims of Elizabeth City, Gary B. Mims of Fairfax Station, Va. and Randal S. Mims of Morehead City.
