Alan Creaser Obituary
Creaser, Alan
Alan Osmond Creaser, 75, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2018 at Litchfield Woods Health Care Center in Torrington, CT from the effects of metastatic prostate cancer. Born in Newport, VT on December 28th, 1942, he was the only child of Clyde C. and Barbara H. Creaser. Alan graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in political science and then continued his education at the Pennsylvania State University where he earned his PhD in theoretical physics. In 1972, Alan accepted a research/teaching position in physics at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's, Nfld, Canada. In 1976 he returned to the United States settling in New Hartford, CT and teaching physics at the University of Hartford.
Despite dealing with bipolar illness, Alan made the best of his diagnosis with much time spent at Prime Time House Inc, an organization in Torrington supporting adults with mental illness. Medication helped stabilize his illness, and he continued being an advocate for the mentally ill community throughout his life. Alan had a larger than life personality sharing fun and good will towards everyone he met. He showed kindness and appreciation to all – a stranger was a friend he hadn't met yet. He was an avid chess player and baseball fan especially of the Boston Red Sox. In his younger years, before the tremors of his Parkinson's syndrome, he played the piano and throughout his life wrote novels, plays, and short stories. Alan was also a spiritual person and was a devout Baha'i having been introduced to the Baha'i religion by his second wife, Willow Dealy. He lived his life according to the Baha'i principles of Love and Unity towards all people globally. He leaves to mourn his passing, his first wife with whom he reconciled, Barbara B. Creaser of Torrington, CT, his son, John H. Creaser of Cary, NC and his daughter, Mary E. Creaser of Torrington, CT. He also leaves his daughter-in-law, Susan Cass Creaser of Cary, NC and his two grandchildren, Ethan B. and Lauren S. Creaser also of Cary, NC.The family wants to express their gratitude and appreciation to all the staff at Litchfield Woods Health Care Center and to VITAS Hospice Care for their teamwork, compassion, and caring of Alan.Memorial services will be private at the discretion of his family.Anyone wanting to make a contribution in Alan's memory might consider donating to Prime Time House,Inc.836 Main St., Torrington, CT 06790 or to Smilow Cancer Care Center, 200 Kennedy Drive, Torrington, CT. 06790. www.phalenfuneral.com
