Belle Smith

1925 - 2018

Charlotte Smith passed away on November 16, 2018 at the age of 93. She was born at home on July 25, 1925 to Anton Morton Jensen and Birdie May Donovan-Jensen in Junction City, Oregon. After graduating from Junction City High School in 1943, Charlotte moved to Eugene where she worked in the cafeteria at the University of Oregon. One day she met a handsome young soldier, Warren LeRoy Smith. They were married on January 15, 1944, in Santa Clara, California. After the war, they lived in Portland for a short time before settling in Eugene, Oregon, where they raised their family.

Charlotte was a member of Trinity Methodist Church where she was active in Women's Circle and helped in the FISH program. She enjoyed baking and candy making during Christmas. Her friends came to expect not just a few, but an entire cookie sheet of iced cinnamon rolls. She grew beautiful roses, rhododendrons and azaleas. She enjoyed getting together with friends to play cards. She bowled on a league. She played in Women's League Volleyball when it was just getting started in Eugene. She enjoyed weekends on the coast and traveling across the country to visit family and friends.

Charlotte is survived by her daughters, Sharon Heisler of Eugene, Barbara (Bill) Gee of Amity, and Kim (Bill) Lowder of Springfield; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, and sisters, Audrey May Young and Mary Louise Jensen.

A Memorial service will be at 2:00 January 19 at Trinity Methodist Church (440 Maxwell Rd, Eugene, OR). Please bring memories to share. Cookies and Coffee will be provided by her daughters.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlotte's name to Trinity Methodist Church, Westside Baptist Church or Signature Hospice.

Arrangements entrusted to Springfield Memorial Funeral Home. Please access the obituary and you are invited to sign the guestbook at musgroves.com
