Karen Elaine Hemmingsen Obituary
1946 - 2019

Karen Elaine Hemmingsen passed away peacefully the morning of January 7th, 2019 at the age of 72.

Karen was born November 24th, 1946 in Plainville, Massachusetts to Bette and Ralph Hemmingsen.

She left high school early at the age of 16 and went on to study at UCONN where she majored in Early Childhood Development. Much later she attended the University of Oregon School of Law and received her doctorate

Karen spent time living in Anaheim, California and Paris, France before settling in Eugene, Oregon where she chaired the school board and then worked as a school district lobbyist in Salem. It was also in Eugene that she met the love of her life, Henry Goldstein. Henry and Karen's life together took them all over the world. They spent time in France and Ghana, and loved Italy so much that they learned to speak Italian and bought a house there.

Karen's passions included knitting, quilting, and baking, and she was a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu cooking school in Paris. She was an avid Scrabble player, and could complete the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle in pen before breakfast was over. When she and Henry lived in Arizona after retirement she started playing tennis and in 2010 her tennis team won the USTA Nationals for their division.

Karen is survived by her husband of 30 years Henry, her sister Samantha, her children Rachel, Aaron, Jason, and Jacob, and 6 grandchildren.
