Robert Smith (Bob) passed away peacefully at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield at the age of 87.
Bob was born in Olympia, Washington to Willis and Helen Smith on August 13, 1931. The family moved to Springfield in 1938. Bob earned his Eagle Scout while attending Springfield High School.
As a young man he enlisted into the Army and served with the US Army ski troops in Alaska during his service. Upon returning to Springfield, he married Sue Rose and began his career as an Industrial Electrician.
Bob was well known for his interest in Aircraft and re-built two planes to flying condition. He also enjoyed restoring steam tractors and antique firearms back to their original form. Bob took great pride in belonging to Antique Powerland in Brooks, Oregon and local gun clubs.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Daughters Debbi Kuhn (Paul), Roxanne Smith, 3 grandsons and 7 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday January 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, Springfield, Oregon. Those who wish may contribute to Trinity Baptist Church: Youth Camp Fund.

I will always cherish my memories of "Uncle Bob." He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and uncle who brought an infectious sense of play and joy in living to everything he did.
