I had the pleasure to have Kooter as an assistant at the golf course for 17 years. He was great with staff and was an excellent team builder always including the rookies. There were not very many people in Waskesiu that did not cross Kooter's path at one time or another. I can remember one time Kooter encountered a group of golfers on the course when there was frost. After a little discussion Kooter told them that just because the lights are on at Sears does not mean they are open. He had a million of these little sayings and they will also be missed. Waskesiu will now have to say good-bye to one of its most colourful characters. You will be missed old buddy.
sincerely

The first time that I met Kooter caused a little angst, as he came out of the trees in a random area of the golf course with no equipment in sight or any other evidence of worker activity. I gripped a little farther down on my driver for a brief moment as I thought a deranged lost woodsman was emerging. Within moments we were engaged in conversation and from then on whenever at the golf course, looked forward to both catching up on all the news and the playful banter that ensued. He was a good man and passionate about what he was doing and very well known, liked and respected within the golf maintenance industry.I know all of those that I introduced to him on my frequent visits including family, close friends, aquaintences and our golf course workers, all got a charge out of seeing him and conversing as well and too will miss seeing him as I will. The Waskesui Golf Club and community will not be the same without his presence. He was where he wanted to be and doing what he wanted to do, in one of the most beautiful places to be on the planet, and I believe that his spirit will live on and continue to preside there. He often said to me that he was in God's country in Waskesui and now is there. God bless to Kooter, his family and friends and also to all that know of this side to Kooter.

I can still hear his voice as I stood on the 14 tee, "Slow that back swing down" he hollered that was perhaps 5 years ago. From that day forward I always introduced Kooter to my friends as my personal swing coach, we laughed about that every spring when we crossed paths at the club. I last saw Kooter when we had breakfast together at LT's in mid July. I will miss him as will many, Next spring will just not be the same not seeing him around the course. Although I am sure he will be there in spirit. God's speed my friend see you on the other side.

I worked at the Lobstick Golf Course for many years (10th Hole concession and the main restaurant). I would see Kooter nearly every day I was at work and there was never a time when he wasn't full of joy, silliness, and dare I say "mischief"?? He was always teasing and trying to prank the staff, but always in a respectful way and never, ever mean-heartedly. Kooter cheered us up when he could see we were busy (and it got VERY busy sometimes) and I remember him even helping us clear some tables on one particularly busy morning! I have seen him many times over the years as I still go to Waskesiu during the summer months - he was always just as cheerful and friendly as when I worked there. He will be missed, most definitely. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family.
Sincerely,
Janet (Racine) Murray
