Leona Melcher passed away on October 5, 2018 in Fort Collins, CO. She was born on April 8, 1936 in Dalhart, TX. Leona attended grade school in Texline, TX and later moved to Brush, CO, where she finished her education. She worked at the Fort Morgan Sugar Factory, with Doctor Schaefer as a Dental Assistant, at Green Acres Elementary School, and at Columbine Elementary School in Fort Morgan, CO. After moving to Burlington, CO, she worked at Orth's Department Store. Before her retirement in 2005, she worked at Garfield Elementary School and North Shore Health Care Center in Loveland, CO. Leona Gimbel married Albert Melcher on August 1, 1954 in Fort Morgan, CO. They were happily married for 63 years and together they raised four children. Leona was a faithful church member of Immanuel Evangelical Church in Fort Morgan, CO and Faith Church in Loveland, CO. Leona served in the Auxiliary League of Postmasters for 10 years. She enjoyed cooking for family, doing crafts, and caring for others. Our mother was the heart of our family and worked hard to better our lives. She taught us to love God, family, and to have a strong work ethic. Some of the happiest days of her life were spending time with her grandchildren. She always had a beautiful smile and could brighten any room with laughter. Leona is survived by her daughters, Laura (Mark) Hansen and Cindy Motiff both of Fort Collins, CO; her son, James (Carol) Melcher of Knightdale, NC; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Delia) Kobobel, Joshua (Ashley) Kobobel, Allen (Josie) Hansen, Marisa Motiff, Zachary Motiff, Kera (Damon) Hafshejani, Jacob Melcher, and Ember Melcher; her great grandchildren, Joshua, Jesse, and Hope Kobobel, Ariana and Cyrus Hafshejani, and Liam Hansen; her brother, Leroy Gimbel and her sisters, Ruth Ebel and June Kelp. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Carrie Gimbel; her husband, Albert Melcher; her brothers and sisters; her son, Randy Melcher, and her son-in-law, Randy Motiff. A Funeral Service will be held at Immanuel Evangelical Church, 318 West Seventh Avenue, Fort Morgan, CO on Friday, October 19, 2018. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the at www.diabetes.org , or the American Breast Cancer Foundation at www.abcf.org.
