Margaret Ellison Obituary

Margaret Ann (Lacy) Ellison

Abilene, TX

Margaret Ann (Lacy) Ellison, 76, of Abilene, was surrounded by her family when she left this world to be with Jesus on October 1, 2018. Services will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018, 2:00 pm at Crescent Heights Baptist Church, 1902 N. Mockingbird Lane, Abilene, TX 79603. Rev. Rudy Fambrough will officiate. Burial will follow at Hawley Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Ann was born April 15, 1942 to James and Grace Lacy in Gorman, Texas. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1960. She attended Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas. She was a dispatcher for the Abilene Police Department and a secretary at West Texas Utilities before beginning a lengthy career as a legal secretary for various law firms in the Abilene area. After several years at Blue Cross Blue Shield, she transitioned to church secretary for Crescent Heights Baptist Church where she had her first job as a teenager assisting the church secretary.

Along with her parents, Ann was a charter member of Crescent Heights Baptist Church in 1956. She married her husband, Donald Wayne Ellison, on July 2, 1966 at North Park Baptist Church. She and Don moved to Hawley, Texas in 1970 where they were active members at First Baptist Church of Hawley. During those years, Don led the music and Ann was the church pianist. Their daughter, Deborah Lynn, was born in 1971 and Elizabeth Ann was born in 1980. They enjoyed camping as a family in the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. After Don's death in 1997, Ann loved spending time with her 3 grandchildren and attending their various activities. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters and close friends, visiting her brother and family in Portland, Oregon, singing with Celebration Singers, and league bowling. Always an avid reader, the advent of social media opened a whole new world of friendships and associations within the Christian author community for Ann. She was a great encourager to many, a prolific book reviewer, and a worthy opponent in many online word games, most notably Words with Friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Ellison, and her parents, James and Grace Lacy.

She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Olney and husband Kevin of Hawley, and Elizabeth Seitz of North Richland Hills; and three grandchildren, Konner Olney, Alyssa Votaw and Justin Olney.

Ann is also survived by sister Sue Thompson and husband Rick of McKinney, sister Jamie Breed of Abilene, brother Russell Lacy and wife Sherrill of Portland, OR, sister Beth Chance and husband Michael of Roanoke, TX, many foster sisters from her parents' years at the Abilene Girls Home, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Chance, Michael Chance, Tony Breed, Rick Thompson, Konner Olney, Justin Olney, Brandon Breed, Ryan Breed, and Justin Smith.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Hendrick Hospice Care for the exceptional care given to our mom and family. Memorials may be made in honor of Ann Lacy Ellison to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1651 Pine St., Abilene, TX 79601.

My heartfelt condolences. As a part of the Lacy family via James and Grace as my foster parents, I came to know Anne. She was her mother's daughter, funny, feisty, and full of love for her children and grandchildren. Prayers and positive thoughts. Paula M Hartman
