Dorothy "Dottie" Heikkila West, 73, of Abilene, Texas, passed away Friday, February 02, 2018 at Hendrick Hospice.Funeral service will be 2:00PM Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 North 12th street, with Reverend Paul Matta officiating. Burial will be a few days later at Chillicothe Cemetery, under the direction of Abilene Funeral Home.
Mrs. West was born June 29, 1944, in Stanbaugh, Michigan to John Jacob Heikkila and Marian Helen Frederickson Heikkila. Dottie graduated from Northern Michigan University School of Nursing in 1965. Her career in nursing spanned for 40 years. A few of those years were here at Hendrick Medical Center. Dottie was a wonderful wife, great mother, beautiful grandmother and a good friend to many. We will forever remember her gracious smile.
Surviving family members include her loving husband of 35 years, Joe Sonny West of Abilene; her children, Richard Gerald West, Patricia Lynn West, both of Albuquerque, New Mexico, John William West of Phoenix, Arizona, Diana West Bickham of Denison, Texas and Sandra Fay West Haynes of Grove, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Dejah Hubbell of Apache Junction, Arizona, Robert "Robbie" West of Los Angeles, California, and Patrick Bickham of Richmond, California; one brother, John C. Heikkila of Wisconsin; and a sister, Janice Heikkila Hoglind of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marian Heikkila.
