Casey Blanton Obituary

Casey Brandon Blanton

Abilene, TX

Casey Brandon Blanton left this earth on August 24, 2014, leaving it a darker place when the bright light of his life was taken. He was born May 21, 1991 in Brownwood, Texas. Casey was blessed with an oversized personality and a zealous sense of humor that was on full display to any person he might encounter. If Casey was awake, you can be assured he was displaying his ten-thousand watt smile and exuding joy and happiness for all of his friends and family to soak in. Casey was quick with a joke and a helping hand, not unwilling to engage in good natured mischief toward his friends and family. Casey, in turn, returned that love to his family tenfold, instilling in them constant joy and pride, together with almost daily kind hearted attempts to drive his mother crazy, a goal at which he would have undoubtedly accomplished since he was well over half way there. Casey possessed a generous spirit, always a champion of the underdog, as well as the stray dog, countless numbers of which he took home to care for. Had Casey had any ambition to be in the entertainment industry he could easily have served as a stunt double for Justin Timberlake or Jeffrey "Wheels" Dexter Boomhauer, III, both of which he could do a spot on impression of. Casey engaged in a constant quest for fun and frolic and brightened the lives of anyone who encountered him. At the tender age of eight he declared to his mother that he liked looking at "sportsman bras" in the Sears Catalog because, "Well, it makes me happy". Casey never wasted a moment in making himself and those around him happy, and all who loved him were enriched by that. Casey hit the sibling jackpot with Matthew Blanton as his older brother. Although the torment was mutual, so was the unconditional love. Casey's hobbies included, hunting (mostly the shooting part not so much the waiting to shoot part), fishing (although his lack of patience demanded he get several bites a minute to hold his attention), swimming, playing X-Box, "improving" his or someone else's vehicle, watching movies, spending time with friends and family, and general rascality. Always quick to lend a hand and make the world a better place for the human race, Casey displayed a sense of service beyond his maturity. Casey might randomly pick up several garbage bags of litter at a local park, or engage in other selfless conduct for no other reason than for the simple joy he received from helping others. Casey equally abhorred rules, guidelines, drama and annoying people. Casey's giving nature continues through his greatest gifts of Organ & Tissue Donation.

Casey attended Jim Ned High School and graduated in 2008 from The Masters Academy. He was employed by Fox NDE as a Level II Non-Destructive Testing Technician in the San Antonio area. Casey is survived by his parents, Rhonda and Randy Blanton, his brother Matthew Blanton and Matt's wife, Katelyn Blanton, his nieces, Skylar and Presley Blanton, who Casey adored, perhaps because all three, at times operated on the same maturity level, with a child's innocence and a fundamental understanding of pure happiness. Casey is also survived by his grandparents, Brenda and Charles Blanton, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, his beloved Remi Dog, many, many friends and too many stray animals to count.

This remembrance is written with a slant towards humor, because happiness and humor were the essence of Casey, along with a gentle, generous spirit. Casey was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and grandson as well as a loyal friend who will be missed dearly by all who knew him. A Celebration of Casey's Life will be Sunday, October 5th, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Nelson Park in The Festival Gardens (East South 11th & Loop 322 across from the Zoo) in Abilene, Texas. Please join us at this casual gathering in honor of Casey. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to consider registering to be an Organ & Tissue Donor or share a random act of kindness.

Dear Friends & Family,

This year has been quite the journey to say the least. We would like you all to know that we appreciate all the love, prayers, cards, calls, texts, gifts, donations in Casey's name & most of all, thank you for all your loving support. Our hearts still hurt & probably always will, but we try our best to honor Casey by concentrating on the blessings. We want to thank everyone that registered with Donate Life in honor of Casey. He leaves behind quite a legacy. We love hearing all the Casey stories & hope you will continue to share them with us. We sure miss our precious, ornery Casey.

Just to give you an update because there is still false information online. Two young men have been arrested & indicted for Casey's murder. The accused shooter remains in jail with numerous charges. The driver is home under full house arrest with a GPS monitor.

Six months after Casey's death & his Gifts of Life we were given permission to write the recipients of Casey's organs. So far, we have heard back from two. We are so thankful to know that they are doing well with Casey's help. Please continue to pray for all the recipients & their healing. We have high hopes that we will hear from more but we have been told that survivor's guilt is difficult to overcome. We pray for their physical & emotional healing. We are so proud that Casey lives on as a HERO with his final Gifts of Life.

Below is the information that we have about Casey's Organ Recipients.

Casey's left kidney was transplanted into a 42 year old male from Texas. He is married with two children. He enjoys hunting, fishing & watching TV.

We received a beautiful four page letter from the family of the recipient of Casey's right kidney. Antonio, is a 60 year old man that had been waiting for almost 8 years for a donor. The whole family signed the letter & said that they registered with Donate Life in honor of Casey who had a tremendous big heart & changed our lives with his selfless act. Saying thank you doesn't seem like enough, when what Casey did was basically save our father's life. They also said that Antonio, was a professional mechanic. He has always been a person to lend a hand to all who needed one. That sounds a lot like our Casey & it warms my heart.

Casey's liver was transplanted into a 64 year old female.

A 66 year old male breathes with Casey's bilateral lungs. He is from Texas & retired. He is married with two children. He enjoys spending time on his ranch with his wife, dogs & socializing with friends.

Casey's heart was transplanted into a 66 year old female.

His pancreas was transplanted in a 51 year old named Brenda that was so sick she had almost given up hope. Recently, she & her family went hang gliding in Kitty Hawk, NC in honor of Casey. They all wore t-shirts with Casey's pictures & they wrote on the shirts what Casey means to them. Brenda is spunky, doing well & flying high.

Two Texans now have the gift of sight because of Casey's cornea donations.
Can you imagine seeing the world through Casey's eyes?

His tissue, tendons, ligaments, heart valves, veins, cartilage & bones helped numerous people in need.

We are very proud of Casey's legacy & find some peace knowing that he lives on in the lives of others & always in our hearts.

Thanks again for all your love & support,

The Blanton's
