Eunice Oshima Obituary

Eunice (Nozu) Oshima

Eunice (Nozu) Oshima, age 95 years, passed peacefully on November 26, 2020. She was born in Fallon, Nevada to Eichi and Moto Nozu on August 20, 1925 and months later relocated to Reno, Nevada with her 3 older siblings. She married George T. Oshima August 24, 1946 who preceded her in death October 2001. She graduated from Reno High School and held many community service jobs and worked for years at the Flower Box a family-owned business. Her desire was to become a nurse and worked as a candy striper showing her deep commitment as a caregiver evidenced by family and friends.

Her positive outlook and gentle spirit displayed one of selflessness where others came first before her and her infectious smile touched the heart of many brightening their day.

She was also known as an excellent cook with memorable dishes and was willing to share the recipes with anyone who experienced her culinary skills. Her recipes have been passed down as a tradition on family menus.

Her passing on Thanksgiving deepened the meaning of thankfulness. We are thankful for the life she lived with the undeniable love she shared and though she will be sorely missed, her memories will remain in our hearts and never fade.

Eunice, whose oldest daughter, Georgia, preceded her in death, leaves behind daughter Patricia (Rob) Garlock, son Geoffrey (Chuck), grandchildren Robert (Samantha) Garlock, Sean (Michelle) Garlock, Troy (Jammie) Garlock and Corinne (Jay) Baker, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no services per Eunice's request. If you wish to make a donation in her memory, you may choose a charity of your choice, or donate to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society - Nevada, PO Box 231359, Las Vegas, NV 89105 or to the Northern California/Northern Nevada Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 2290 North First Street, San Jose, CA 95131.

In 2001 I was a nurse at what was then Washoe Medical Center. As soon as I saw this photo of Mrs. Oshima, I remembered her and her husband George, who was a patient of mine. I remember how wonderful your family was. Your mother was so kind and beautiful. It was a very special memory for me. I am sorry for your loss. She was very special.

My sincere sympathy to Eunice's family. I had the pleasure of knowing Eunice when she visited the store I managed, what a wonderful, friendly women. I enjoyed the few minutes I got to talk to Eunice about her children. I went to Orvis Ring School with all of Eunice's children.
