George William Thomas, Jr.

Surrounded by his family, George William Thomas, Jr., affectionately known as Grandpa George and Dad by many, passed away after a lengthly illness on July 12, 2013.
Born on December 10, 1927 in Stockton, California, he was the son of G.W. and Lena (Gordon) Thomas, Senior.
He attended local schools and upon graduation entered the family business, Stockton Chemical Company. The Sullivan Act prevented him from enlisting in the Army for WWII but he was able to serve his country as a Sergeant in the California National Guard for 10 years, having one of the top gun crews in the state.
In 1960, he and his family moved to Reno, where he worked 26 years as a glazier for Alpine Glass and Twin City Glass. He retired in 1986.
He was active in several organizations and enjoyed square dancing. He was president of the Reno Promenaders and the Spring Festival held yearly at the Convention Center. He also coached Little League.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Corrinne; daughter Jeanne Naccarato (Drew) of Edmond, OK; son Scott Thomas (Kaci) of Reno; grandchildren Donald Zimmerman (Kelly) of Reno; Emily Lange (Jim) of Mesa, AZ; and Paul Zimmerman of Edmond, OK; step-grandchildren Tracie (David) Raynham of Aloha, OR; Brett (Piper) Naccarato of Livermore, CA; and Mandy Naccarato of Oakland, CA; great-grandchildren Oliver and Harper Zimmerman of Reno; and step-great-grandchild Evelyn Raynham of Aloha, OR; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Jan Thomas, and several half-brothers and sisters.
The family extends their grateful thanks to Dr. Jerry Zebrack, Regent Care Center and the owners and staff of Royal Heights Group Care Home.
Private funeral arrangements were held.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Nevada Humane Society, 2825 Longley Lane, Suite B, Reno, NV 89502.
