Born in Gary, IN to Russell C. McCay and Hazel I. Blake. Robert is survived by his daughters Crystal and Andria McCay, Grandchildren; Brittany Saunders, Alex and Lauren Luckadoo, Raeloni, Rianna, Rachelle, Richard and Raymond Kerr and Kevin Lylte.

Robert graduated from Merrillville High School in Merrillville, IN class of 1948. Working as a teenager in the Steel Mills he then enlisted in the Navy where he served aboard the USS Barton in the Korean War. On a Tuesday evening while the crew slept on August 10, 1952 the USS Barton was hit by an enemy floating mine. The crew sat out to sea for several days before being rescued and towed to Japan for repairs.

Robert was a resident of Reno since 1961, where he started a career in sales at Gray Reids department store. He worked in a long line of retail establishments for Montgomery Wards, McMahans Furniture and then selling ladies shoes with his handsome charm and sparkling blue eyes at Lloyd Gotchy shoes.

Services will be held at La Paloma on Tuesday, March 12 starting at 11 am, burial to follow at Sierra Memorial Gardens.
