James Walsh Obituary

James Paul (Jim) Walsh, Jr.

Reno - James Paul Walsh, Jr. (Jim) was born October 21, 1930 in Inglewood, California to Marian and James Walsh, Sr. He was the eldest of two children. Jim graduated with honors from Loyola High School in Los Angeles, CA, and continued to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Southern California. He attended school full time as well as worked full time to pay his way through college. His mother would often wake him up in the morning having fallen asleep with his books as a pillow. Jim graduated in 1953 and worked for Western Lithograph in Los Angeles, CA. He met his beautiful wife, Carolyn Bowe Walsh, at an Alpha Omicron PI sorority party in 1954 at USC.

On August 18, 1956 Jim and Carolyn were united in holy matrimony. This union was blessed with three children. They bought a home in Covina, CA in 1958. In 1966 Jim and Carolyn moved their family to Sparks, Nevada where they bought a home when Jim acquired the Executive Vice President position at J-V Corporation. In 1976 they built a lovely family home in Golden Valley, NV. Later they added an extra recreation room for Jim's detailed train layout of the Feather River route. He enjoyed every aspect of trains, as well as his stamp and coin collections. Jim retired from J-V Corporation in 1996, but during the flood of 1997 Jim helped save J-V's products from flood damage.

Jim and Carolyn loved to travel all over Europe, Israel and Egypt. Their favorite place was the pure beauty and splendor of Lake Tahoe, CA. When Jim wasn't working he was always up for a game of golf.

Jim was a devoted Catholic and enjoyed going to Mass every week with his wife and family. Jim and Carolyn have been loyal members of a spirit-filled prayer group. Jim was also fond of being a Eucharistic Minister and was an eloquent lector for the church. He was a very loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He was such an honorable and respected man throughout the community and to his family.

Jim is survived by his sister, Margaret Bieber of Grand Rapids, MI; his beloved wife of 61 years, Carolyn Bowe Walsh; his daughter, Diane Moore; his daughter, Susan Bell; and his son, James Walsh III; his grandchildren Michael Drew, Sarah Gentolizo, Carrie Drew, Jessica Acuna, Sharon Bradshaw, Jonathan Dummar, Ryan Bell, Sophie Bell, Tyler Walsh, Carissa Gatewood, his great-grandchildren Ashton, Everley, Aiden, Brynlee, Layla, Mandy, Kennedy, Gabriel and Marcos.

James "Jim" Paul Walsh, Jr. went home peacefully to be with our gracious Lord and Father on Sunday, June 10, 2018. Jim was loved dearly by all his family, and he will be greatly missed.

Viewing will be on Thursday, June 14th at 6:00 pm with a Rosary service to follow @ 7:00 pm at Walton's Funeral Home, 875 W. 2nd St., Reno, NV 89503.

When I was a little girl. I wasn't lucky enough to have a father or a family. It was just me and my mother. And then when my mother married my step dad. I knew I finally had a father. Then not long after I met you and grandma. You both were so loving and quickly took me as your granddaughter. All the holidays, birthdays, monthly visits to the house.. The memories. The love. I feel as if I'm lost. There are no words for how hurt I am. It is impossible to count all the tears I've cried. I love you more than words could describe. Everytime I see a train I always think of u. I find myself looking at your pictures wishing I could have said goodbye. I love you grandpa. Until we meet again.
