Arthur Reid Gillespie Obituary
Arthur Reid Gillespie

Fernley - (July 19, 1940 - August 4, 2018)

Arthur Reid Gillespie ("Art") of Fernley, Nevada, departed from this world of natural causes on August 4, 2018 at the age of 78. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

Arthur was born on July 19, 1940 in Brewster, Massachusetts, to Lester and M. Dorothy Gillespie. He graduated from Bristol County Agricultural High School in Dighton, Massachusetts. When Arthur was 17, he met the love of his life, Jean Sulkala, and they married on October 29, 1960. Arthur and Jean were married 58 years and shared 3 children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, who all knew him as "Poppop."

In his early years, Arthur studied horticulture and began his first business, South Brewster Nursery, at the young age of 19. He went on to study at Rittners School of Floral Design in Boston and poured his passion into multiple flower shops he owned over the next several years. In 1978, Arthur and his family moved from the Northeast to Eugene, Oregon, where he pursued a career in construction, working as a supervisor for multiple large companies in the Pacific Northwest. Arthur and Jean later moved to Nevada, where he continued in the construction industry and, in 2005, began Underground Video Technologies, Inc.

Above all, Arthur was an inventor with an entrepreneurial spirit. Among his brilliant ideas, he designed Hydro-Screen, a system to recycle wood waste debris from log yards, that he quickly parlayed into a successful company - designing, manufacturing and selling nationwide. Another of his creations was a component rebuilder called the flux welder.

Arthur was a man of deep faith and had a strong love for his Savior. His faith took him on a missions trip to Sri Lanka for the Impetus 80 event of the World Council of Churches, where he volunteered as a videographer.

He was an avid gardener, with an immaculate garden and beautiful yard. Arthur also loved to fish, travel and, of course, to tinker and create. He also enjoyed spending time in the kitchen at home with his wife, serving as her most loyal and excellent sous chef.

Arthur is survived by his wife Jean Gillespie, daughter Cheryl Gillespie, son Timothy Gillespie (Lynzie), six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Michael Gillespie, 2008.

A celebration of life service will be held Friday, August 10, 2018 at 2 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 125 West Tolas Place, Fallon, Nevada 89406.
