Betty Joan McDaniel Schumacher
April 1, 1931 - April 5, 2021
Betty Joan Schumacher, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away in her sleep at her home in Sparks, Nevada on Monday, April 5, 2021 at the age of 90 years.
Betty was born in Garibaldi, Oregon, (the 8th child of 9) to Clara Stone McDaniel and Lucien McDaniel.
She married James Delbert Schumacher on October 11, 1952 in San Francisco, California. They had 7 children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 7 siblings, her husband and 3 sons, James Delbert Schumacher Jr., Stephen Scott Schumacher, and Curtis Andrew Schumacher.
Betty is survived by 4 of her children, Elizabeth Ann Jaques, Donald Brent Schumacher, Aaron Ralph Schumacher, Joannah Marie Schumacher, her sister Verna "Booie" McDaniel Pratt, and countless grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Betty retired from the Hamilton Company after a varied career, but her favorite "job" was being a mother and grandmother.
Betty was a grounding rod for her family. She taught them to be hard workers and to support their communities by her example through her life. She also taught them to be respectful to others and to their beliefs, but to always be true to themselves. She instilled in her family her love for music and dance and was an excellent cook.
Betty was politically active and fearless when it came to the rights of women and children. She devoted many hours in assisting organizations such as "Right to life", "Eagle Forum", and "Aid for Abused Women". She also worked hard to make sure that the local school system would keep important programs such as music and civics to complete the educational development of all children.
Betty was also an active member in her church for many years.
A small graveside service was held at Mountain View Cemetery on April 12, 2021.
