Carley Jane MacDougall

Reno - Carley Jane MacDougall passed away on May 30, 2018 at her home in Reno. She was 84. Jane was born in San Francisco, California on August 13, 1933, the only child of George and Eleanor (Brown) Carle of Daly City. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Daly City and met her husband Richard R. MacDougall there on a blind date when she was 18. They were married on August 8, 1953, a few days before Jane turned 20.

In 1956, Jane, Dick and their two small children moved to Smith Valley, NV where Dick started his career with the Soil Conservation Service. The family moved to Lovelock in 1959 and then to Reno in 1974.

Jane attended the University of Nevada, Reno, graduating in 1979 with a degree in child development. She worked in the University of Nevada Child and Family Research Center after graduation and later for The Learning Tree, a Reno preschool. Jane was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Reno and sang in the choir for many years.

Her husband preceded her in death in 2001. Jane is survived by her daughter Becky and husband Garth Colwell of Reno, son Steve (Mij) MacDougall of Lovelock, grandchildren Ben Colwell of Seattle, Brien (Catherine) Colwell of Redwood City, CA, Courtney MacDougall of Atlanta, Brandon (Meli) MacDougall of Fallon, and great-granddaughter Scarlett MacDougall.

The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to Saint Mary's Hospice as well as the many other caretakers and neighbors whose support and care allowed Jane to remain in her home during her final months.

A private family memorial with be held later this year in Lovelock where Jane's ashes will be spread on her son's farm to join those of her late husband. In lieu of flowers, the deceased requested that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
