Carolyn Pickens Chimits

Reno - Carolyn Pickens Chimits, 91, passed away quickly as a result of a major stroke on April 16, 2021 in Reno Nevada.

She was born on November 28, 1929 in Beverly Hills, California to Leonard and Clarice Pickens and lived there until she finished high school. The family then moved to Reno, Nevada where she attended the University of Nevada and graduated in 1950. Carolyn was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority while at the University. She started a career in fashion modeling and commercial art.

She married Paul Chimits in 1957 and had three children and got involved with the Huffaker P.T.A, 4H and many other civic groups over the years. She was very active with the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for over 65 years and was also a 50-year member of the P.E.O Chapter Q sisterhood.

She loved her careers as a mom, a fashion illustrator and a professional tour guide and painted prolifically with watercolors.

She was preceded in death by her sister Barbara Elaine, her parents and by her son Stephen Scott and is survived by her husband Paul and her twin son and daughter, Christian and Barbelaine and their spouses Tammie Chimits and Mike Baumann. She had six grandchildren.

She knew the Lord Jesus Christ and was confident of joining him in Heaven when she passed, so her family rejoices that she has received the full reward for her faith.

In lieu of any flowers etc. any donations may be sent to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, or the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

I’m so sad at Carolyn’s passing. We have been friends through Good Shepherd since our children were young (over 55 years), and Paul found us the house next door to them that enabled us to become their neighbors as well as friends in 1992. My heart hurts for the family, but I rejoice that Carolyn is reunited with Steve and her parents in God’s presence.
