Chester "Chet" Stanley Dobies

Auburn, CA - Chester "Chet" Stanley Dobies passed away on Nov. 30th, 2017 in Auburn, CA.

Chester was born in his home in Solvay New York on Jan. 14, 1926.

He grew up in N.Y. and when old enough, he and his brothers worked at the family business, The Dobies Special pub.

Chester proudly served in WW II in the European campaign. He was awarded 2 bronze battle stars, became a sergeant, was a carbine M1 expert, and received many medals.

In 1948, Chester and Margaret "Peggy" Cunningham were married in N.Y.. The Dobies' also lived in Tujunga, Burbank, Hesperia and Auburn CA for a time, before settling in Reno, Nevada.

Chester worked for Pacific Telegraph and Telephone Company, which subsequently became AT&T, for over 20 years before retiring.

After retiring, Chester and Peggy traveled the world and visited all the 7 continents. They went on multiple international cruises and enjoyed many adventures!

Chester had a positive attitude and a great sense of humor. He and Peggy used to enjoy playing the slot machines in Reno, and both enjoyed reading. Chester was instrumental in gathering together neighboring WW II veterans in Reno, and several were flown to Washington, D.C., to attend the opening of the WW II Memorial.

Chester and Peggy were married for 60 years before Peggy preceded Chester in death. Also preceding Chester's passing were his 2 sons, Richard and Gregory; his 2 brothers, Ted and Robert; and his 2 sisters, Helen and Sally.

Surviving Chester are 3 grandchildren, Julia, Jonathan (Brandy) and Wesley. Also his sister-in-law, Mary (Robert), and 2 daughter-in-laws, Susan (Richard) and Nancy (Gregory.) Chester also has many nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces in N.Y.

Chester touched many lives, and is loved and will be missed. May God bless

Private services to be held at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church (mass), and at the Veteran's Cemetery in Fernley, NV on 12-18-17.
