Elizabeth Ann Ashley Guild Obituary
Elizabeth Ann Ashley Guild

- - Elizabeth Ann Ashley Guild passed away on December 28, 2017. She was born in Champaign, Illinois on March 21, 1924. In her early years she lived in many places all over the Midwest during the Depression. Her favorite place in those years was near her Grandfather in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

She graduated from high school in Shelbyville, Indiana and from William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri. She was highly intelligent and was a talented architect having designed and built a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired house in Reno, Nevada.

She worked for the United States Army during World War II at Camp Roberts, California where she met her future husband Clark Guild Jr.

After the war she and Clark married and lived in Denver, Colorado and Washington, D.C. before moving back to Carson City, Nevada. There she started raising a growing family and supported Clark's nascent legal career. She was active in community affairs in Carson City and Reno, Nevada. She was president of the 20th Century Club in Reno and starred in many plays and musicals at Reno Little Theater.

An active outdoorswoman, she taught her children to ski, ride horses and swim. She loved to play golf most of all and was active in the Washoe Golf Course and Hidden Valley women's golf clubs. She presided over her children's many sports activities and other interests. There were many trips to Las Vegas for swim meets and various ski areas for Far West Junior ski races. She did all of this with grace, enthusiasm, and concern.

She was a bright star in the lives of so many people; friends, acquaintances and, in particular, her nuclear and extended family. She is survived by her children: Joe (Cathy), Jeff (Darlene) and Jann (Robert) and the Russell nephews and niece; Clark, Virginia, David Craig and Todd. She had eleven grandchildren who called her "Yannie": Michael, Mia, Richard, Charlotte and Joe; Ty and Cristen; Courtney and Ben; Jessica and Mason and Step grandchildren Tyler, Celeste and Kelsey. There are also sixteen great grandchildren. Predeceasing her were her love Clark, son Dan, and Marjorie and Charles Russell and so many others. She also had many special friends whose love and affection she cherished: Kay, Jackie, Michelle, Pat, Patty, Sue, Renee, Mimi and Sheryl.

E-Ann traveled all of the continents except Antarctica, and everywhere she went, she made friends and brightened lives. She lived on Maui for over 25 years and had an array of Island friends as well.

We will miss her smile and charm. Those remaining will all drink a beer with a straw in her memory. She wished no public services, but her family and close friends will inter her ashes at the Dayton, Nevada cemetery in the family plot next to Clark and Dan and scatter a few symbolic ashes in the Pacific Ocean which she loved beyond words.
