Ethyle (Bebe) Johnson Obituary
Ethyle (Bebe) Johnson

Reno - Ethyle (Bebe) Johnson, age 94, of Reno, Nevada formerly a native of Loyalton, CA passed away at Renown Hospital in Reno on November 22, 2017.

Bebe was born on October 19, 1923 in Loyalton, California. She spent her early years in Loyalton growing up on her grandfather's ranch, which expanded up to three thousand acres, and helping her parents wrap butter in their creamery.

Bebe was the youngest daughter of Attilio Lombardi and Panola Edwards Lombardi. Attilio Lombardi was a highly successful and respected businessman who was the operator of Lombardi Mercantile and the manager and secretary of the prestigious Sierra Valley Creamery. He was the former Mayor of Loyalton; Member of the Sierra County Board of Supervisors; and a Veteran of World War I. She was the granddaughter of one of the most successful ranchers and best-known residents of the Sierra Valley, Pompeo J. Lombardi, who immigrated to California from Canton Ticino, Switzerland.

Bebe's mother, Panola Edwards Lombardi was born at Olean, New York, and was the daughter of John D. Edwards, a prominent railroad man and the granddaughter of E.C. Atkinson, a distinguished lawyer at Arkansas City, Kansas.

Having a prominent and successful family did not define Ethyle Lombardi. She preferred to be called Bebe, a nickname given to her by her older sister, Marilyn. Her older sister couldn't say baby Ethyle properly so she called her "Bebe". A name she wore proudly.

Bebe was a dedicated and hard worker and retired to her cherished home, Crystal Lake in Reno, Nevada. There she spent her retirement years pursuing her passion for gardening and landscaping. Her beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and neighbors have fond memories of her gardening efforts, whether it was tending to her perfectly manicured pond with lily pads and a laburnum or planting her favorite flowers like petunias, begonias and roses.

Bebe was a devoted and loving mother of five beautiful children. She was very proud of her family and was excited to become a grandmother to her three grandchildren. Bebe loved to make pastries for her grandchildren and spend Thursdays watching the humming birds with her grandson Pompeo Julian Lombardi. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bebe was known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor and keeping her yard "postcard ready". She will be truly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Survivors include three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial is scheduled at Napa Sonoma South on December 21st at 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
