Frieda Josephine Mattson

Sparks - Frieda Josephine Mattson passed away September 1, 2020. She was a graduate of Broadview Academy, earned an Associate degree in education from EMC, a Bachelor's in elementary education and history with emphasis in special education and a Master's in communication from Andrews University.

Frieda was active in the Riverview Seventh-day Adventist Church, women's ministries, feeding the homeless, leading the choir and teaching Sabbath School. She married Henry Mattson, a minister, pharmacist and missionary. Together they ministered in Nigeria, Canada and the U.S.

Frieda loved to sing, teach and share, always having a bright and kind word. You could never leave her home hungry nor without a vibrant discussion. She loved music, travel, baseball, history, books and letter writing. She brought context and energy to any interaction, considering every moment to be a 'teachable' one.

Frieda raised 4 children Melodie, Margo, Marlene and Morris being a full-time teacher and mother, which she humorously and lovingly called the toughest job she ever had. She is preceded in death by her parents John Baethke & Eunice Bost Connell, her husband, her siblings Betty Newinski, and John William Baethke, Jr. and her daughter Margo McKenna. She is survived by her sister Jacqueline Schliefer, her children Melodie Bell, Marlene Harris, and Morris Mattson, and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

A final memorial in 29 Palms, CA, where she will be interred next to her loving husband Henry, has yet to be scheduled.

Our Family just found out about Frieda's passing. She was a dear lady and good friend to my folks Elinor and Eugene Tryon of 29 Palms CA. In fact, from what I understand she and Henry were match makers in getting the two of them together. Her husband married them in 1992.
May she rejoice in her heavenly home and may God Comfort her loved ones.

I realize this is real late, but my Christmas card to Frieda was just returned. May she rest in peace with my grandparents, Elinor and Eugene Tryon. My condolences to the family.
