Gloria Barengo Ramsey passed away on July 12 with her family beside her after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Gloria was born in Reno, Nevada and attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School, Bishop Manogue Catholic High School, and Dominican University of California. She was a Medical Technologist and was licensed nationally as well as specifically within Nevada and California. She worked at St. Mary's Hospital and Washoe Medical Center. After moving to California, she worked at various labs and was supervisor of the laboratory at University of California Medical Center, Irvine.

Gloria earned her M.A. in Marital and Family Therapy (Clinical Art Therapy) from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and then went on to earn her M.A. in Mythological Studies with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria near Santa Barbara. Prior to her illness, she was continuing her studies at Pacifica and was a Doctoral Candidate for her Ph.D. in Mythological Studies with an emphasis in Depth Psychology.

Gloria loved to read, knit, needlepoint, and spend time with her family and many friends. She enjoyed attending the symphony, her book club meetings, Bible study, bunko, and Monday Club gatherings. She was an avid photographer whose portraits truly captured the essence of the individual. Gloria was an outstanding mother and grandmother as well as a caring friend.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Thelma Barengo. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Acosta (Randy); grandchildren, Brendan, Brittany, and Benton; sister, Barbara Rail (Larry); niece, Shanti Chatfield (Marcus); and great-nephew, Magnus.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, July 25 at 3:00 pm at the Carmelite Monastery (1950 La Fond Drive, Reno).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.
