Dr. John Andrew "Andy" Cameron

Dr. John "Andy" Cameron passed away on January 7, 2021 at Renown Regional Medical Center.

Andy was born on July 6, 1946 in Southern California, and lived in several different places while his father was in the Navy until settling down in Reno. He graduated from UNR with a bachelor's in science and received his medical degree from the University of New Mexico. He worked as an emergency room physician for approximately 30 years, mostly at Washoe Medical Center and Renown. He was also a member of the National Guard as a military doctor, re-enlisting after the attacks on 9/11 and rose to the rank of Colonel after serving tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.

When he wasn't working, he loved to travel around the United States and internationally. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, and held an annual sports medicine baseball fantasy camp for many years. Andy always enjoyed attending local Wolf Pack basketball and minor league baseball games, and watching his beloved Dodgers. He was also known by family and friends for his wonderful sense of humor, and generous and compassionate nature.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents John and Peggy Cameron. He is survived by his wife Zewdie, daughters Susan and Elizabeth, sisters Jan and Pat, as well as his granddaughter, nieces, other relatives and numerous friends.

Services for Dr. Andy Cameron will be held on Tuesday January 19, 2021 at 1pm at Mountain View Mortuary.

Andy was my great friend since our time training at LA County-USC Medical Center in the early 70s. I had the pleasure of helping with many of his Big League Baseball-Sports Medicine Camps. My wife and I travelled with him to Cuba, India and China. I have a YouTube video of photos that recall our times together: https://youtu.be/Iq7PyKBhrLQ
