SANCHEZ

John Sanchez, 85 passed away late Monday evening, July 27, 2009 at his home in Reno, NV. John a well known resident and practicing attorney in Reno for 50 plus years, after graduating from The University of Nevada Reno and subsequently obtaining a law degree from The University of Utah, devoted his life to helping people in all walks of life beyond the accepted manner associated with close friendships.

John was born in Azusa, CA on May 16, 1924 to Alejo Sanchez and Magdalena Ortiz, both residents of Mexico. They had four children, one of which died early in his short life with the family. Early years were spent in California until the family moved to the State of Nevada where his father worked in the copper industry in Eastern Nevada. His early years brought John a quick study of a difficult life which matured him in a manner probably much sooner that a normal teenager. As a boy, John worked in the copper mines of Nevada below ground and above in order to help support the family. He was also an announcer at a local radio station in Ely, NV. These experiences further built his character to move forward for a better life now that he was married to Eleanor Gomez, having recently celebrating 65 years of marriage. His military experiences gave him the opportunity to attend UNR and the University of Utah. John loved color and he will always be remembered as the most colorfully dressed attorney in Nevada's history. John served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division during W.W.II and saw action at Bastogne.

John is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor; his son, David; his sister, Auelina McGrath and a brother, Gilbert Sanchez. He has many relatives in California, Nevada and Arizona.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Mountain View Mortuary, 425 Stoker Ave., Reno, NV. Viewing for family is from 10 - 11 a.m. with a public viewing from 12 - 3 p.m. also on Saturday.

There will never be another John Sanchez by the standard set by his will and love for life.
