November 20, 2012

John Stuart (Stu) Jones born September 15, 1922 passed away peacefully November 20, 2012 in the presence of his daughters Karen Culver and Jan Hall and his wife of 65 years, Margaret. Stu had an eventful 90 years. He was always a happy go lucky sort; cheerful smile and a twinkle in his eye. Stu enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and being with his family. Stu was born in Grenada. He was the eldest son of Marvin and Anna Mel Jones. He had two brothers (Melvin and Alton) and one sister (Edith) who spent their childhood days in Granada, Bray and Hilt CA. Stu attended Yreka High School graduating in 1942 while working on the family ranch and at the Yreka Hotel. Stu joined the Navy but was given a medical discharge due to arthritis. Stu went to work for Fruit Grower's in Hilt, CA. Stu and Marge were married in 1947. Daughters Karen and Jan were born in 1949 and 1951. 1955 saw the small Jones family move to Reno, NV so that Marge and Stu could work for Sprouse Reitz Varity until 1963 when they moved to Portland, OR when Stu was promoted to a retail merchandise buyer until his retirement in 1987. Stu's retirement years saw travel, family outings and parties. In 2000 Marge and Stu returned to live in Reno to enjoy being closer to friends and family. His 90th Birthday this year was very exciting for Stu as he was able to see many of his relatives and friends. Stu was always a delight to be around and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife, Margaret and her three sisters, many nieces and nephews and many of their children, daughters Karen Culver and Jan Hall and their husbands Jack and Ken. Stu has six grown grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A celebration of Stu's life will be held in the future.
