Margaret Hall Obituary

Margaret C. Hall

Margaret passed away at her home in Reno, March 18, 2010 after a five year valiant fight with cancer. Her son, Jeffrey and daughter, Johanna were with her at the end.

Born to James and Naomi Cottrell on January 31, 1945 in San Francisco, CA, she was the third of four children. She grew up in Arcata, CA where she attended College Elementary School and Arcata High.

She married Virgil "Charles" New in 1967 and had three sons: Jim, Jeffrey and Kevin. In 1973 she returned to the Arcata area with her sons; attended College of the Redwoods and then Humboldt State University. In 1978 she married William Hall, a widower with two daughters Johanna and Liz.

Margaret was very involved with Soroptomist International in Reno as well as doing volunteer work with Susan G. Komen for the Cure. In 2007 she received the Soroptomist Award of Excellence. Shortly before her death she had to resign as President of her Soroptomist group; a position that she felt very honored to be given.

Margaret was predeceased by her son James New (1990); and husband William Hall (2006). She is survived by her sons: Jeffrey Hall-Cottrell (Sara); Kevin New (Shannon); her daughters: Johanna Metheny and Elizebeth Wortman (David); her grandchildren: Amanda Metheny; Morgan and Moira Hall-Cottrell; Allison and Brandon Wortman; James and Anna New; great-grandchildren: Spencer and Victoria Metheny. She is also survived by her aunt Leone Cottrell-Adkins; her sister Rosemary Hawkins (Bruce); her brothers Harry Cottrell (Claudia) and Stephen Cottrell as well as many other relatives and special friends. She will be especially missed by her nine nieces and nephews and their families: and her cousin Beth Cottrell.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Margaret on Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the North Valleys Regional Park Community Center in Reno. To Margaret's Family,
I was so saddened by the news of Margaret's death. It seems like I had just seen her at our last class reunion and she was so happy and full of life. I have fond memories of her in College Elementary School and Arcata High School. We had fun together in Camp Fire Girls as well as so many other activities. I will always remember her happy smile and friendliness.
Sincerely,
Pam (Davis) Cahill, Class of '62l
