Mario Angelo Barbieri Obituary
Mario Angelo Barbieri

February 23, 1925

October 6, 2017

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Papa, Nonno and Uncle Mario. Mario Angelo Barbieri passed away peacefully October 6, 2017, at his home with his family at his side.

Mario was born to Amedeo and Maddalena (Bona) Barbieri in Sparks, February 23, 1925. He attended Sparks High School until he joined the US Navy in 1943 during World War II where he served as a Master Bugler on the USS New York, BB34 until 1946. Mario married Rosie Curti, the love of his life, June 12, 1949, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Sparks. He went to night school to obtain the one credit he lacked and received his diploma from Reno High School in 1972. He worked as a meat cutter for Hansen's Market, Pacific Meat and after 37 years with Safeway Stores, retired in 1987. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, the light of his life. He enjoyed bowling, bocce ball, tinkering in his garage, maintaining his yard and garden, trimming bushes and shrubs like a professional and playing Canasta and Pedro with family and friends. He had a real passion for golf, playing mostly at Brookside Golf Course. He was one of the "Dawn Patrol," a group of cronies who would tee off before the sun came up. It was on that course that he shot two holes-in-one. For the family and friends who visited him, we will remember many good times accompanied by one or two Manhattans, his favorite drink. He was a member of the Sparks Sons of Italy, Italian Benevolent Society and Little Flower Church.

Mario was preceded in death by his wife (January 24, 2017); parents; brother, Reno Barbieri; sister, Ines Abba; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is survived by his daughter, Marlene (Gary) Drew; son, Rick (Kris Burton) Barbieri; grandsons, Travis (Nicola) Barbieri and Jeremy (Lindsey) Barbieri; brother, Carl (Ilda) Barbieri; brother-in-law, Joe Abba; numerous nieces and nephews.

This beloved, humorous, kindhearted, gentle and loving soul will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

The viewing will be held at Walton's (O'Brien-Rogers & Crosby), 600 W. Second St., Reno, October 12 at 5:00pm-7:00pm. The services will be held there as well, on October 13 at 11:00am, with entombment immediately following at Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to .
