Marsheilah Denice (Allen) Lyons

Sparks, NV - Marsheilah Denice (Allen) Lyons, 49, of Sparks, NV, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born on October 6, 1971 in Fort Bragg, NC, to the late Lois Brenda (Kirkpatrick) and Mack Allen.

As a proud military brat, she always joked about being a "Fayetteville girl" at heart since her birth home was North Carolina. Marsheilah attended O. Perry Walker Senior High School in New Orleans, LA, Wayland Baptist University (Bachelor of Science in Occupation Education, Human Services), and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (Master's Degree in Christian Education).

Marsheilah married William B. Lyons, Jr., her soulmate and sweetheart whom she met as a teenager. To this union they were blessed with two beautiful children, Marshay and William III. As a devout Christian, Marsheilah not only expressed her Christian love for people through words, but by compassionate actions as well.

She was an expert in public policy, from childcare advocacy to health and human services. As the Deputy Director of Research Division at the Legislative Council Bureau, she was well respected, admired, and loved by her colleagues and legislators across all political spectrums. She always said, "If you are not a part of the solution, you are probably a part of the problem."

Although she lacked a green thumb, she was very artistic. She loved drawing, painting (especially with her granddaughter Zara), scrapbooking, beading, and jewelry making. Marsheilah was also an enthusiastic puppy mom, spending lots of time with her puppy children, Saphira and Lola

Marsheilah is survived by her loving husband, Pastor William Lyons, Jr.; her daughter, Marshay (Quentin) Smith; her son, William Lyons III; her granddaughter Zara Smith; her father, Mack Allen; her siblings; Donna McDonald, Monique Coler, Annias (Sonja) Allen, Kevin Allen, Michael Allen, and Mack Allen, Jr.; numerous nieces, nephews, friends; and her Greater New Hope Baptist Church family.

Marsheilah and I met many years ago when she was the Research Analyst for the Senate HHS Committee. During the pressure-packed days of the legislative session, she was grace under pressure and so kind to everyone who worked with her. Little did I know that one day, we would be colleagues at LCB, and what a gift that was. Marsheilah's heart for service played out in everything she did, and the legislators who were fortunate enough to have her as their policy expert knew they would get sage advice, untold wisdom, and a calming spirit that was so welcome when things got dicey. And, when the situation called for it, Marsheilah was a prayer warrior for everyone who needed it-- whether or not the service was requested. She believed deeply in the saving grace of Jesus' death and resurrection, and it manifested in the grace she showed to everyone who was blessed enough to share even a few moments with her. What an amazing, beautiful, intelligent, and kind woman. Marsheilah, I so look forward to seeing you on the other side; thanks for blessing me with your friendship!

Although, gone too soon, Marsheila had prepared for this day to hear her Lord say unto her, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord (Matt. 25:21). Marsheila will be missed by all those whom she had an opportunity to come in contact with. To the family, our prayers are with you. We encourage you to continue to lift up your eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh your help.
Your help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
Read the entire Psalm 121 for continued strength. We love you and are here if you need us. God bless, The Matthews’; Ken, Jackie, Three and Cori.
