Mildred Jeanne Carkeek Bigley

So you should view this fleeting world --

A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream,

A flash of lightening in a summer cloud,

A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.

Diamond Sutra

Mildred Jeanne Carkeek Bigley passed away peacefully in her home that she shared with her daughter Lynne, Michael Castle and her son Daniel on October 12, 2012 in Sparks, Nevada. October was her favorite month.

Jeanne was born on October 4, 1925 in Butte, Montana to John Carkeek and Mildred McCauley. Jeanne had two sisters, Lois (James) Schmidt, who preceded her in death, and Alice Jane (Frank) Fowler of Dillon, Montana. Jeanne's husband Arthur 'Pete' Bigley also preceded her in death in 2006. Jeanne is survived by her six children; Arthur, Anne (Randy Guest), Taryn (Mark) Raven, John (Tamar), Lynne (Michael Castle) and Daniel. She is also survived by her four grandsons, Jesse Bigley, Dean (Andrea) Raven, John (Nealie) Raven and Matt Raven.

Music was an essential part of the Carkeek family. Jeanne played piano, her sister Lois played the violin and her youngest sister Alice Jane played the cello. Jeanne was the head majorette at Butte High School in the early 1940s. After graduation, she spent summers traveling and playing with the 'Louise Stone Trio'. She shared many stories about playing at a variety of places including the Rocky Mountain Cafe in Meaderville, Montana, the Lodge at Yellowstone National Park and as far east as Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

The Bigley family would like to give their heartfelt thanks and express their love to Jeanne's wonderful caregivers, Sharon, Mercedes and Rene, employees of Home Instead. We would also like to thank Jeanne's amazing Hospice team from Vista Care and especially her nurse Sue. Their knowledge, expertise and support helped our family tremendously.

Jeanne's memorial will take place in Montana. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Jeanne's name to Vista Care Hospice, 1625 East Prater Way, Building C, Suite 108, Sparks, NV 89434.
