Patricia Ruth Sweeney

Reno - Patricia (Pat) Ruth Sweeney, 80, died peacefully on November 21st at Brookdale Reno senior community. She dearly loved her husband and family, and faithfully served the Reno Christian Fellowship (RCF) and other Reno area church communities and their preschool programs until she retired six years ago.

Pat leaves behind her beloved husband, Les, of 62 years, her older son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Kumiko Sweeney of Tokyo, Japan, her two grandchildren, Len and Jay Sweeney, and younger son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Donna Sweeney of Northern Virginia near Washington, DC.

Pat was born on December 3, 1937, in Hollywood, CA, to Leonard and Ruth Schneider, and spent her childhood in the Hollywood area where her father owned a Texaco gas station on Sunset Blvd, and later owned and managed several properties in Hollywood and the surrounding areas. Growing up, she was often asked to be an extra along with other elementary school children in Hollywood movies. She met Les, one year her senior, at Hollywood High School, and she was active in Job's Daughters, a Masonic organization, as well as school sorority activities. They married soon after graduating from high school.

She first began teaching preschool part-time in 1967 at Encino Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, and later worked full-time at the Community United Methodist Church preschool program in Huntington Beach, CA. In 1976, the family moved to Reno, and she became Assistant Director at Noah's Ark preschool at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Northwest Reno. In the late 1980s she joined the RCF preschool program where she served as Director for over 20 years.

A Celebration of Life is planned for 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 16th in Fellowship Hall at RCF. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made to Reno Christian Fellowship Preschool.

The family would also like to offer their deepest gratitude for the loving care Pat received at the memory care unit at Brookdale Reno senior community to include hospice services in the final stages of her life.
