Richard Dawson Taylor Sr., beloved husband and father, died August 17, 2018, at age 73 after a long battle with Parkinson's.

Born September 1, 1944, in Birmingham, AL, he lived in numerous cities, being the son of an Army colonel. Richard attended Athens State University where he was a member of the golf team. He avidly pursued golf throughout his life. Upon marriage to the love of his life, Cheryl Dorn, they moved to Reno, Nevada in 1971 where they raised their two sons. Richard was very involved in all activities in which his sons, Dawson and Will, were involved. He was affectionately known as "Coach Taylor" by many. Richard worked in banking, title insurance, and as a small business owner for many years. He was a member of Reno Rotary, Nevada Mortgage Bankers Association, Reno Sparks Association of Realtors and Executive Association of Reno. Richard, Cheryl and Dawson returned to Birmingham in 2015.

Survivors include wife, Cheryl Dorn Taylor, and son, Richard Dawson Taylor Jr., of Birmingham, AL; brothers Gibbs Hewitt Taylor of El Paso, TX and Waights McCaa Taylor (Liz) of Santa Rosa, CA; brother-in-law Phil Randall Dorn (Joy) of Birmingham, AL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son, William Randall Taylor and parents, Waights McCaa Taylor Sr. and Rose Dawson Taylor.

A Celebration of Life will be held at his favorite spot, Lake Tahoe, next summer.
