Roy Jacob De Ricco
Sparks - It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of Sparks native and life long resident, Roy Jacob DeRicco. Roy went home to God on Friday Dec 18, 2020 passing peacefully at Renown Regional Medical Center with his children by his side. Roy was born September 20, 1929 the youngest of four children born to Guerino & Toniette DeRicco. He attended Mary Lee Nichols Elementary School, Robert Mitchell Grammar School, Sparks Junior High and Sparks High School, graduating in 1947.
Roy served in the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard, managed Stampfli's Record Room in downtown Reno and retired from the Washoe County Health Department where he was an environmental health inspector.
Roy met Maureen Sadler at the Record Room and the rest as they say is history. Roy and Maureen had 45 loving years together before Maureen's passing in 2002. He was quite the dancer and never lacked for dance partners at the many functions he and Maureen attended, even teaching dance for a time. He participated in the early days of Sheep Dip and worked on productions at Reno Little Theater. Roy and Maureen loved attending their children and grandchildren's many activities and spent countless hours cheering them on in their various endeavors.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife Maureen, his parents, brothers Ernie and Leo and sister Tosca Carolo. He is survived by daughters Lisa DeRicco Redmon-Gay, her husband Dave, Julie DeRicco Macaluso, and son David all of Sparks, cherished granddaughters, Hayley Gorbet and Amanda Macaluso of Sparks, Hannah Gourley and her husband Nick of Eagle, Idaho and Natalie Gay of Los Angeles. Also survived by his beloved great grandchildren Lilli Jo Ann, Kaeleb Philip Scott and Gaven Adam Huck of Sparks and new born twins Rex John and Gus Roy of Eagle Idaho. Roy was thrilled to have a new little namesake. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Roy's nurses and doctors at Renown who so respectfully cared for him in his final days. He will be greatly missed and as one dear friend put it- One of the Greats has passed.
Due to the current pandemic situation, a private family mass and burial will take place in January with a celebration of life to be held later when it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nevada Humane Society 2825 Longley Ln B, Reno NV 89502 in Roy's memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Waltons in Sparks on Sullivan Lane. We will miss Dad's unconditional love, sparkling eyes and witty personality. Credo, Spero, Amo.
