Grace Pappas McQuaid Obituary
Grace Pappas McQuaid

Grace Pappas McQuaid, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, February 23, three months after the passing of her husband of 74 years, Robert McQuaid. She was born August 19, 1919, in Fairfield, California, to James and Eleni Pappas.

Grace was raised in Tolenas, California, in a happy Greek family of six children, reminiscent of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding!" In 1938, Grace married Robert McQuaid and relocated with him in 1943, living in many small Nevada towns, including Battle Mountain, Lovelock, Ely, and Elko before settling in Reno.

Throughout the years in Reno, Grace enjoyed working in women's clothing departments, first at Gray Reid's Department Store and later at the "new" Joseph Magnin's in Park Lane Center. She received great satisfaction from helping girls and women assemble fashionable outfits, and even greater enjoyment helping hapless husbands, caught in a last-minute gift-shopping dilemma, choose clothes that their wives would actually wear and like!

Grace was a devoted grandmother to her two grandsons, providing a warm and welcomed lunch in her home near Swope and Reno High School for Brian and Casey, every week or so, until they graduated from high school.

Grace is survived by her son Robert (Susie) McQuaid, Jr., of Reno; her grandsons Brian (Jill) McQuaid of Reno; and Casey (Faith) McQuaid of Dublin, California; two great granddaughters, Olivia and Avery McQuaid of Dublin, California; one great grand-son, Colin McQuaid, of Reno; two sisters, four nephews, and one niece.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to St. Mary's Hospice, and their loving gratitude to Patrick Geronimo, Delia Ramilo, Rudy, and all the devoted caregivers at Oasis Place. We will never forget your kindness!

A private Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 2nd, for Bob and Grace.
