Marion Hose Obituary
Marion Tavenner Hose

August 30, 1963

February 3, 2016

Marion passed away on February 3 from heart failure, supported by friends and loved ones. She touched people far and wide - connecting people, finding ways to make peace, solving problems, bringing joy to others with her laughter and welcoming spirit. Life's possibilities were endless - there was always more to learn, more to experience, and more fun to be had - she was the life of many parties. Marion will be missed by family, many friends, and business associates.

Born in Lowell, MA, Marion spent her childhood in Massachusetts, Maryland, and Okinawa. Marion was a graduate of Lynbrook High School and, at 19, Santa Clara University, both in the San Jose area. She also studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. Marion sought out and shared her passions with others, whether reading Rostand, Wilde, or Vidal - actively engaging in French and Spanish - or playing the flute, piano and violin.

Marion lived life in a big way, traveling around the world to France, Turkey, Vietnam, Thailand, and Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean. She loved sailing and sailed everything from dinghies to tall ships from Chesapeake Bay to New York, Alaska and San Francisco Bay. Whether scuba diving, skiing, backpacking, biking and swimming, she embraced outdoor adventure.

Marion married Alex Hose on April 19, 1997. Together, she and Alex made a formidable team, enjoying many personal and business adventures together. Marion was a devoted mother to their son, Alexander, who was frequently at her side, laughing, learning and experiencing life with her. Their love and connection was plain to see.

Marion had a lengthy career in commercial real estate, after starting as a stockbroker, first in Silicon Valley and then in Reno, where she and her husband founded and owned AMH Properties. Marion valued her business relationships and felt personally connected to her team, colleagues, clients and partners. She actively served the community, and served on the boards of the Reno chapter of CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women), Arts for all Nevada/Lake Mansion and Regional Association for Downtown (Reno).

She is survived by husband Alexander V. Hose, son Alexander Hose, mother Marcia Tavenner of Reno, sister Sharon Simas of Bellevue, WA, and brother Kevin Tavenner of Novato, CA.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 18th at 2:00pm at Mountain View Mortuary, 435 Stoker Avenue in Reno. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marion's name to Arts for all Nevada/Lake Mansion.
