Virginia Hatjakes Obituary
Virginia Hatjakes

Virginia (Gina) was born in Winnemucca, Nevada on June 6, 1950 to Guy C. Williams and Mary Lucille Williams, from whom she acquired her sharp wit and sense of compassion. Six years later, Gina moved to Reno alongside her parents, her older brother, John, and her younger brother, Robert. She and her siblings enjoyed a beautiful childhood, during which weekends were spent working on their cabin at Donner Lake and playing baseball in the park well after the sun set. Gina was bright both in her intellect and her cheerful disposition, and even as a young girl, she looked after the people around her. She met her future husband, George, in a business class at the University of Nevada, Reno. George accidentally knocked over the textbooks on his desk after falling asleep in class. The loud disruption earned a stern look from the professor, but fortunately also attracted Gina's attention. The two quickly fell in love, married in 1972, and started a family that grew to ten people. She lived for her family and friends, for whom she was an unending source of love, strength, and comfort. Gina was quick to laugh, quick to tell a joke, and quick to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. Her boundless capacity for love touched all of those who met her.

She is survived by her husband, George, her brother, Robert (Bob), her eight children: Mark, Chris, Amanda, Zac, Alison, AnnElise, Jonathan, and Matthew, five beloved grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and countless others who were recipients of her unconditional love.

A service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 10:30 a.m. at the LDS Church, 1095 Golconda Drive, Reno, NV.
