Reno - Richard (Dick) O'Bannon Meeuwig passed away January 1, 2018. He was born December 8, 1927, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Hendrik and Mary (O'Bannon) Meeuwig. On August 28, 1967, Dick was united in marriage with Joy Landrum.

In his teens, Dick and his mother moved to San Francisco, CA. Dick holds two Forestry Degrees from UC Berkley and a PhD in Soils from Utah State University. During his 30 plus year career in the US Forest Service he worked in several Western states as an Assistant Ranger and as a Research Scientist for the Intermountain Forest and Range Experiment Station. In 1965 Dick transferred to the UNR Renewable Resource Center under a coop agreement between the Forest Service and UNR. His research work focused on Management of the Great Basin pinyon juniper woodland. After retiring from the Forest Service, Dick had a second 20 year career as Editor and Web Master for the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology at UNR, retiring at age 80.

Dick is survived by his wife Joy, son Matthew of Reno, son Michael of Oregon, and Lora Tennant of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, David.

Dick will be remembered for his steadfast love for his family and his respect for the natural world.

A private burial will be followed by a gathering of friends and neighbors for the sharing of memories and stories.
