On Monday, June 3, 2019, God sent his loving angels to claim one of His very own, Mrs. Verna E. Hill after a tragic accident in Sussex County, Virginia. Verna was born on July 12, 1952 to the late James and Verna Lane. She was reared by the late Purnell and Queen Britt.

 
Verna accepted Christ as an early age and joined the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Emporia, VA where she served as an usher and later she attended Pocahontas Temple Baptist Church in Wakefield, Virginia. Where she served as an usher, hospitality and food bank worker. 

Verna was educated in the Greensville County Public School System were she received her GED. Verna was employed at Old Dominion Beef Company (now known as Boars Head). In 1991, Verna started a new career path as a professional truck driver with her  husband, retiring in 2007.

 

Verna was preceded in death by her husband,Donald Lewis Hill; daughter, Tracy Lane; infant son, Frank Lane; sister, Virginia L. Jones; and brother, James R. Lane.

She leaves to cherish her memories: niece, Sumedise J. Colbert (William) reared as daughter; great nephews, Charles R. Lane (Angela) of Wakefield Virginia, and Donta R. Lane of Germany reared as her grandsons; her niece, Cynthia L. Jones of Emporia Virginia, Gloria Ferby (Greg) of Petersburg, Virginia, and Ruby Williams of Emporia, Virginia;  nephew, James R. Lane III of Chesterfield Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.


Service will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Pocahontas Temple Baptist Church, 10234 Branch Street, Wakefield, VA, the Rev. Lewis Allen, eulogist The interment will follow at Waverly Cemetery.


 


The family will assemble 1:00 P.M. the day of the service and will also receive friends at 543 Railroad Avenue, Wakefield, VA.
