I worked with Bob for four years in the Corporate Communications Dept. at Continental Financial Services Company in Richmond in the early 1980s. He hired me and got me started on what would be my career as a writer and journalist. Bob was a wonderful man whom I respected dearly--bright, thoughtful, professional, a talented artist and yet easy-going. We were a busy department, and yet I cannot remember him ever getting stressed or frustrated about anything. He was imperturbable. He was loyal to his staffers, loved his family, and always ready for a light laugh, all of which made him an absolute pleasure to work with. Bob was a good man in every way--a true friend. I have fond memories of my time at CFS with Bob, and I'm glad to say that we kept in touch over the years after I left the company. I will miss him. ---Richard Ernsberger Jr.

Dearest Bob, We will miss you particularly at Thanksgiving and Christmas and always. After our children Lanie and Doug were married we shared a wonderful fellow ship with our grand-daughter Tyler.and other family members. My sympathies are with your family during this very difficult time. I feel privilege to have known Bob, a talented artist, a gentle man and so generous with sharing his knowledge with all of us artists. May the memories of all the special moments you have shared with him during his life on this earth bring you comfort during these trying days.

As a member of the Jack Woodson Sketch Group that Bob so wonderfully organized, planned and nurtured I would like to send my thoughts and prayers to his family. He was a talented painter and a great guy that will be missed by so many. His name will always be at the top of the list in the Richmond art community. I have one of his beautiful paintings of the James River that is a treasure. We will miss him terribly.

I have such fond memories of this family all through high school. Mr Meacham was a real treasure and I know he'll be deeply missed. May your own wonderful memories, Steve and Doug, help you through this painful time.

To my cousins, Doug & Steve, and their beautiful families ~ my heart goes out to you during this time. Your father was an incredibly special person in my life, especially when I was a teen and young adult. The example he set, along with your mom Adrian, taught me so much about the love that families could share, about giving respect to one another, and about taking whatever life threw at you with grace and humor. I loved him immensely. He was a true gentleman, intelligent, funny, warm, and compassionate. I join you in the sorrow you feel at his loss, but celebrate the beauty of his unique spirit and am so grateful for the time I was blessed to spend with him.

I don't think I've ever known a finer man and friend than Bob. I can still remember his 30th birthday as if it were yesterday. He and Adrian lived across the street from me and later 8 houses down the road. Both he and Adrian were my dear friends for many years and there are not enough words to express how much he will be missed. I am sending love and prayers to his wonderful family and to Bob's great spirit which is now watching over all of his loved ones. I have to say, Happy Hour will never be the same. You will never, ever be forgotten, Bob, and I thank you for being the best of a friend to me for all of these years.
